A pronoun is a word that replaces a noun. Instead of saying "Emma went to the shop and Emma bought apples," we say "Emma went to the shop and she bought apples."
Pronouns are the shortcuts of language! Without them, speaking would be very repetitive.
๐ด Without pronouns:
"Tom lost Tom's bag. When Tom found Tom's bag, Tom was happy."
โจ With pronouns:
"Tom lost his bag. When he found it, he was happy."
The word that a pronoun replaces is called its antecedent (the noun it stands for).

Refers to specific people or things. Changes based on who's doing what!

Shows ownership. Stands alone (unlike possessive adjectives which need a noun after them)!

Used when the subject and object are the same โ the action "reflects" back!

Points to specific things. Like a finger pointing at something! They stand alone (no noun after them).

Used to ask questions. They ask about people or things!
who ยท whom ยท whose ยท which ยท what
Connects a clause to a noun or another pronoun. Adds extra info about something!

Refers to non-specific people or things. No specific person or thing in mind!
everyone ยท nobody ยท someone ยท anything ยท nothing ยท everything ยท each ยท few ยท many ยท several
"They" as Singular!
"They" can refer to one person when their gender is unknown or not specified. "Someone left their umbrella โ they might need it!"
The Royal "We"!
Kings and queens used to say "we" instead of "I" when speaking officially. This is called the "royal we"!
"I" vs "Me"!
Use "I" as a subject and "me" as an object. "She and I went" is correct. "She gave me a gift" is correct!
